Getting very close

I’ve been struggling a bit lately on a topic to write about, mainly because I’ve been a bit wrapped up with getting school finished while focusing on getting a job.  When it comes to finding a job I’m a bit unpatient, I always have been.  I’ve always thought that it is my job, as leader in my family, to provide the financial security so that we do not have to worry about paying the bills.  At this point in our relationship, my wife and I, need to be focusing on each other rather than how we are going to pay the bills.  I’ve found that it is relatively easy to do this with a little self-control and budgeting.

There are many things that I value in life: my faith, my relationship with my wife, my family, quiet times, and my career.  I was reading a posting on a blog this week that made me realize that, these things, the things that I value, need to be protected.  Read the posting.  I’ve been thinking this week what I’m doing to protect those things.  I do not want to get myself into a position where protecting my career or anything else will leave anything higher on the list unprotected.  Don’t get me wrong, I do want a job that will be rewarding to me, but if the job will take me away from protecting the structure of my relationship with my wife or my faith, then my job will ultimately not be satisfying.

I know that God will provide a job that will be satisfying to me while letting me protect the things that I value, just maybe not as soon as I would like.  I’ve found Ecclesiastes 7:8 that says:  The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.  I have to be patient know that God will provide and my faith, my relationship with my wife, and everythihng else close to me, will grow because of my patience and by protecting these things.

Beauty even in the city

I know a lot of people complains about changing their clocks twice a year, but I don’t really mind it that much.  I am a morning person and tend to enjoy everything that goes along with it.  One of my favorite things about mornings is getting to see the sunrise, and it seems to be especially great during Spring.

When I arrive at work in the mornings I usually sit at my desk and go through the usuals of checking my mail, phone messages, etc.  From my desk I get to look out a window across a small field where there are flowers and trees planted.  The early sun shining on the different things definitely makes you appreciate the creation, even in the middle of town.

Vista…the next ME?

It’s probably already a known fact, but it appears to me that Microsoft’s latest operating system endeavor is, at best, getting a very sluggish start.  Reminds me a lot of the windows ME era where, after a lot of people installed it, or purchased a computer with it, Microsoft released its predecessor, Windows XP.  With talk of Microsoft already planning the release of a new operating system (Windows 7:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7) Vista could easily be a thing of the past rather quickly.

SP1 for Vista is supposed to offer improvements to the system but the number of updates and patches (23 security, and 550 patches) included gives a brief glance at the issues that have been had with the system.  Hopefully this will fade out rather quickly and a much better product released.

Theme

I’m still playing around with the themes.  So be patient and I’ll eventually land on one that I like.  If you have any comments about the page let me know!

This year is going to be what?

Prior to getting married last summer, my wife and I had been prepare for, what we had been told, would be one of the hardest years of our lives.  We had entered into our marriage with fuziness as to how things would work out as we molded our lives together.  We weren’t sure how everything would work financially, logistically, and how God was going to work in our marriage.  Oh, were we in for a ride.

For a while before we got married, we had worked out together how we thought everything would go, and working through a budget that would allow us to live the way that we wanted, and most importantly allow us to honor God in the way that we spent our resources.  We had decided several things when we got started, one was that we would tithe every time that we got paid, and the other was that we would work our lives so that we would not have to accrue any more debt.  I can say that for making these decisions, and others in our lives, that we have been blessed more than we could have ever hoped.  We are living comfortably, with a limited income, and the rest of the money is blessed, allowing us to use it to better our lives.  I know that the decisions that we have made with our money (to trust God, and use it responsibly) has reduced much of the stress of being new to marriage.  I could not have asked for a better way to start our life-long marriage.

We intend to keep this going, living below what we make, and using everything that we have to the fullest of its potential.
